Aberforth Smaller Companies Trust plc (the "Company")

As detailed in the prospectus of the Company issued on 29 September 2003
in connection with the reconstruction and winding up of Aberforth Split
Level Trust plc, Hamish Buchan has been appointed as a non-executive
director of the Company with effect from today.

No further information relating to this appointment is required by
paragraph 16.4 of the Listing Rules.
