In commodities, Brent crude fell 0.3% to $77.99 a barrel, and WTI crude fell 0.5% to $73.99 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 0.6 basis points to 2.478% from 2.472%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 0 basis points to 3.75% from 3.75% Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.4%, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 2.1%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite fell 0.1%.
