In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 dropped 0.5% in morning trading. Aalberts climbed 3.8% and Telecom Italia added 3.6%. On the other hand, Orpea sunk 15.5%, and Idorsia slipped 10.3%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.6%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 decreased 0.7% and Germany's DAX dropped 0.5%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.3% to 96.26.

In commodities, Brent crude rose 0.6% to $80.44 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 0.4% to $73.72 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 6 basis points to 2.251% from 2.191% and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 3.7 basis points to 3.561% from 3.524%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.7%, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 2%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite was lower 0.8%.
