French President Emmanuel Macron will nominate Schneider
Electric SA executive Luc Remont to take over as chief executive
officer and chairman of utility Electricite de France SA, the
Elysee Palace said in a statement Thursday, confirming earlier
media reports.
The nomination, made at the recommendation of the prime
minister, will be referred to the country's legislative bodies for
consultation, according to the statement.
Mr. Remont, 53, is currently vice president, international
operations, at French energy-management and automation company
Schneider Electric. He will replace Jean-Bernard Levy, CEO and
chairman since 2014, at the head of the energy giant, which is set
to be nationalized and taken private by the French state. Media
reports earlier this month had suggested Mr. Remont was in line to
take the reins of the company.
Earlier this week, French economy minister Bruno Le Maire
suggested that the functions of CEO and chairman could be separated
following EDF's nationalization.
