International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 0.3% to 152.45. The European index ticked down 0.2% to 148.80. The Asian index retreated 0.4% to 175.37. The Latin American index slipped 0.6% to 185.26, while the emerging-markets index declined 0.3% to 292.25.

ABB Ltd. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The Swiss technology company tumbled 1.5% after it said it is investing around $170 million across seven U.S. states as customer demand for electrification and automation products rises.

Aegon NV rose 0.7% after the Dutch insurance, pensions and asset-management company announced the sale of its U.K. individual protection book to Royal London.
