NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Logicalis US,
an international IT solutions and managed services provider
(www.us.logicalis.com), announced today it will host a special
"Girls in Technology" event at its Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, office on
Thursday, November 10th.
The event's purpose is to give young women from high school through
college-age the opportunity to explore careers in technology
fields, and to learn first-hand from women who excel in those roles
today what they love about working in IT and what it takes to earn
their dream job in information technology. To maximize its ability
to reach interested students, Logicalis is working in cooperation
with the Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation (MCWT)
via its Girls Exploring Together – Information Technology (GET-IT)
program. Any high school or college-aged girl interested in an IT
career is welcome to attend the event and can register here:

"At Logicalis, we recognize the need to help young women achieve
their career goals in what has traditionally been a male-dominated
field," says Julie Spiller, Vice
President of Vertical Solutions and Business Development, Logicalis
US. "Many times, young women interested in technology careers have
little access to real-world role models. Without direct contact
with the kinds of organizations they may one day want to work for,
they can only guess about how to best prepare for their futures. We
want to empower these young ladies by sharing with them the types
of careers that are available, where they might be a good fit, and
how to start preparing now for a great future. Through our Girls in
Technology event, we can give them a network of resources that
provides leadership, professional development and support, and that
connects them with real-life mentors who can offer them valuable
advice along the way."
Breaking the Silicon Ceiling
To kick off the event,
Logicalis CEO Vince DeLuca will
discuss the rapid changes taking place in IT today, highlighting
the need for more women in technology roles. Next, the young women
will hear from Ghazal Asif, Director of Global Channel Sales at
Cisco Meraki. Asif's "Own Your Success" presentation will examine
the ways young women can get off to a fast start in their careers
as well as the different types of careers available in the
technology industry, helping the girls to identify the kinds of
positions that best match their professional aspirations.
Breakout Sessions
Next, each young woman will select
three 20-minute breakout sessions to attend from a list of seven
choices:
- Mentoring: A private mentoring session with one other
student and a business leader.
- Communicating with Confidence: Tips and techniques for
communicating with confidence in business settings.
- Interview Basics: Basic interviewing skills from
dressing for success to making eye contact and shaking hands.
- LinkedIn and Social Media: A primer on using the right
social media tools to achieve business goals.
- Types of Jobs in Technology: An overview of the types of
jobs and companies in technology.
- International Meet-Up: Using the latest technology,
girls in Michigan will meet with
girls in New York City and
Phoenix as well as in Brazil and England.
- Stepping Stones: How to prepare for a STEM career and
what resources are available along the way.
To conclude the event, a professional photographer will be on
hand to take headshots of each young lady for their resumes.
Women Leaders of Logicalis
Logicalis empowers its own
women to become leaders in technology through a variety of
programs. One of the most popular is the Women of Logicalis (WOL),
a program founded in 2014 to strengthen the women working at
Logicalis US. Each branch office has its own local WOL program,
while the organization hosts six annual guest speakers and meets
once yearly on a national level. The company also boasts an
unlimited paid time off (PTO) policy entitling salaried employees
to four weeks of annual PTO plus additional unpaid time at their
manager's discretion – great for all employees, this is especially
helpful to women who want to enjoy school breaks with children or
care for an aging family member.
Technology Leaders – Join Us!
This year's Girls in
Technology event is being made possible thanks to significant
support from several Logicalis customers and vendor partners
including gold partners Cisco Meraki, Cisco, Benito's Pizza and
Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF)
among others. Logicalis would like to invite other business and
technology leaders to participate in future events supporting young
women in technology. To get involved, visit the Logicalis US Girls
in Technology web page, then send an email to
WOL@us.logicalis.com.
